Somewhere somehow is a breath of fresh air to the Thai GL industry. Brilliant direction, amazing performances, good care in all aspects of the show.

Every aspect was carefully considered. The book it is based on takes place from 2007 to 2018. Even though the series brings the timeline forward to match with our current year, the motif chosen for this show is the 90s. This is ever present with the music, the aesthetic, even the main character carries a walkman with her, by now considered obsolete technology. This gives the show a nostalgic yet playful tone that permeates the entire series. What sets this show apart from others, is the use of distinct time periods or "eras" throughout the show. As the audience, we get to see the main characters Kie, Pheem and Pock, grown, change, develop and eventually each of them find their happy ending. These eras are not presented without consideration. On the opposite, each have their own unique feeling, wardrobe, hair styles, sets and characters that make every space feel lived in and comfortable. You are never presented with an empty s**** and expected to believe that the characters have moved on from high school to university, or from university to the working live. Instead, not only the characters but everything around them move forward to make the immersion feel believable. This would not have worked, however, if it wasn't for the amazing performances of their main actors: Fay, May and Nam. They embody the characters at each stage to almost make us forget that they haven't in fact grown older as well. To be able to produce the right performance at the right time is nothing short of a huge accomplishment. And on the topic of the acting, another thing that the main actors bring is incredibly chemistry between them. Nothing feels forced when they are interacting with each other, whether it is Kie with her lover Pheem, or best friends Kie and Pock, or the trio together, every time you feel like you are watching real relationships. A lot of the merit, however, needs to go to Monmaw, the author of the original novel the show is based on. The funny yet deeply emotional story was the right choice to bring to the small screen. This fantastic story paired with a beautiful, shiny direction by award-winning director A Nuttapong is consolidated in one of the strongest GL offerings this year.

With it´s fantastic performance and production values, "Somewhere Somehow" offers a new step forward in what a GL series can be. It should be a referent for other production houses to step up their game.
