Queendom

A beautiful series that through a body swap, ReyPrint not only learn about each others' lives but also reflect on their own lives as they navigate life through each others' bodies. Queendom is a series that drives home the message of empathy, self-love and a reminder to be kind to ourselves. It also has a gorgeous side lesbian couple, MaiFon who act as queer parental figures to ReyPrint also navigating their relationship showing that even older lesbians still have lots to figure out. Their bond of processing their relationships with the help of each other shows a much needed sense of queer community

Queendom really is the warm hug that everyone needs in the form of a piece of media to consume. It is a light-hearted but serious romance that is sorely lacking in media that everyone, especially queers need. It is a rom com that has the perfect balance of humour and perfect storytelling that does not make fun of queer love. Queendom instead portrays it in the best way possible through a feminist lens thanks to the director, P'Beam, creative producer, P'Ned and screenwriters, Pat & Kade. The love, passion and effort put into making this masterpiece is clear from the body of work that is Queendom. The cast, Pam, Arhoung, Linn and Praew really do the queer characters justice by portraying them with respect and that itself is extremely admirable on its own but it's really complemented with their top notch acting. Their acting is one of the best I've seen in queer media with Pam and Arhoung having to even act a total of six types of characters in the whole process of playing the two very distinct characters, Rey and Print where both characters go through the stage of before the body swap, during the body swap, having to act their original characters during the body swap and the character developed after the body swap. In all of queer media, Queendom also has easily had the best characterization of each character, the best world building and writing that flowed seamlessly throughout. The parallels to itself as the series progressed as well as the parallels to many other Thai GL as if a homage to them were all very beautiful as well. Apart from the story line of the beautiful romance blooming, the part of the story that touched on bullying was very meaningful as I believe bullying has always been one of the bigger vices we suffer from as a queer person. I also deeply respect Arhoung especially for putting her heart and soul into the series having acted so well despite her mother's passing during filming. Putting her story and soul in both Print and Rey where Print's father passed before he managed to see Print becoming an actress and Rey's speech for her mother is extremely admirable. While I wish that the writing sent a more progressive message addressing classism and delved into the character of Rey's mother deeper, I think that with the time and budget that they had, the pacing throughout except towards the end, was perfect. The soundtracks used and overall sound engineering were great except some audio balancing issues but it did not impact the overall experience of watching the series. The styling, color grading and cinematography are all also extremely beautiful. Queendom is easily the top of the list of the entirety of media I consume also because it's extremely easy and fun to rewatch. Whenever I need that warm hug, I can just go back to Queendom and I think that whole experience is a journey I would like to relive again.

สรุป

Queendom should definitely win for the best series because of how much love and soul has been put into the body of work by everyone involved. I even made a website dedicated to Queendom with the help of another fellow Hamham as a part of the many love letters I wish to write for it. It's also a huge honor that the whole team behind Queendom has been so humble and accessible, sharing their thoughts and experience working on Queendom. I have not experienced this kind of accessibility to the production team behind any other series other than Queendom and that in itself should be deserving of the respect it should get from everyone.
